Description

Swabian Roast Beef with Onions is a traditional German dish that features tender roast beef cooked to perfection and served with caramelized onions, creating a rich and flavorful meal.


Ingredients

  • 2 lbs beef roast
  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Season the beef roast with salt, pepper, and mustard.
  3. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  4. Sear the beef roast on all sides until browned.
  5. Remove the roast and set aside. In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and cook until caramelized.
  6. Place the roast in a baking dish and top with the caramelized onions.
  7. Pour the beef broth around the roast.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 2-3 hours, or until the meat is tender.
  9. Let the roast rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
  10. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve.

  • Serve with mashed potatoes or bread to soak up the juices.
