Description

Soft Baked Cheesy Pretzel Dogs are a delicious and fun snack that combines the flavors of soft pretzels and cheesy hot dogs, perfect for parties or a cozy night in.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water (110°F to 115°F)
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 8 hot dogs
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
  • Coarse sea salt, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture and knead until a smooth dough forms.
  3. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
  4. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  5. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and roll each piece into a long rope.
  6. Wrap each rope around a hot dog, leaving the ends exposed.
  7. In a pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil and add baking soda.
  8. Boil each wrapped hot dog for 30 seconds, then remove and place on the baking sheet.
  9. Brush each pretzel dog with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  10. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving with cheese sauce or mustard.
