Description

Delicious and easy-to-make slice and bake Christmas cookies that are perfect for the holiday season.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips or festive sprinkles

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips or sprinkles.
  6. Divide the dough in half and shape each half into a log about 2 inches in diameter.
  7. Wrap the logs in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until firm.
  8. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Slice the chilled dough into 1/4-inch thick rounds and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  10. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  11. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For a festive touch, use colored sprinkles or holiday-themed cookie cutters.
  • These cookies can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
  • Dough logs can be frozen for up to 3 months; just slice and bake from frozen, adding a couple of extra minutes to the baking time.
