Description

Delicious homemade cherry puff turnovers made with flaky pastry and sweet cherry filling.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package of puff pastry (2 sheets)
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen cherries, pitted and halved
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a bowl, combine cherries, granulated sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla extract.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry sheets on a floured surface and cut them into squares.
  4. Place a spoonful of the cherry mixture in the center of each square.
  5. Fold the pastry over to form a triangle and seal the edges with a fork.
  6. Brush the tops with beaten egg for a golden finish.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Let cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, add a pinch of almond extract to the cherry filling.
  • These turnovers can be made ahead and frozen before baking.
