- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 cup Gruyère cheese, grated
- 1 teaspoon thyme leaves
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil and butter over medium heat.
- Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they are golden brown and caramelized, about 20-25 minutes.
- Season with thyme, salt, and pepper.
- Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface and transfer it to a baking sheet.
- Spread the caramelized onions evenly over the pastry.
- Sprinkle the grated Gruyère cheese on top of the onions.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and puffed.
- Let it cool slightly before slicing and serving.

- For a vegetarian option, ensure the puff pastry is made without animal products.
