Shepherd’s Pie is a classic comfort food dish made with a savory meat filling topped with creamy mashed potatoes.
Ingredients

- 1 lb ground lamb or beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 carrots, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 4 cups mashed potatoes
- 2 tbsp butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large skillet, cook the ground meat over medium heat until browned.
- Add the onion, carrots, and garlic, and cook until the vegetables are tender.
- Stir in the tomato paste, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and peas. Season with salt and pepper.
- Simmer for 5-10 minutes until the mixture thickens.
- Transfer the meat mixture to a baking dish and spread the mashed potatoes on top.
- Dot the top with butter and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a vegetarian version, substitute the meat with lentils or mushrooms.
- Feel free to add other vegetables like corn or green beans.
- Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
